CPCRI launches portable coconut sap chiller

The Kasaragod-dependent Central Plantation Crops Investigation Institute (CPCRI) has introduced a moveable coconut sap chiller for the collection of hygienic and unfermented sap (‘Kalparasa’) from the coconut spadix.

KB Hebbar, Head of Plant Physiology, Biochemistry and Write-up-Harvest Technology of CPCRI, advised BusinessLine that even though the institute had earlier made a coconut sap chiller, producing of it was a time-consuming approach as it had to be assembled manually. With the improve in demand from customers from the coconut-escalating States for the chiller, the timely source of the unit was a little bit challenging.

He explained now the institute, with the economic aid from the Kochi-dependent Coconut Enhancement Board (CDB), has created and fabricated moulds required for the large-scale production of coconut sap chiller.
